Company tax cut on a knife edge

The Turnbull government will not rule out trying again to implement its full company tax cut plan as the Senate was poised last night to either curtail the package or, due to a late standoff between One Nation and the Nick Xenophon Team, scuttle any deal at all.

Treasurer Scott Morrison seemed resigned to achieving a tax cut for business with a $10 million turnover only but said that would not be insignificant and would be “a very, very good result for those 2.2 million Australians” employed in these businesses.
