Queensland’s Small Business Commissioner and office now permanent

Dominique Lamb, the former chief executive officer of the National Retail Association, was appointed to the position.

Minister for Employment and Small Business, Di Farmer, said Ms Lamb comes to the role with extensive experience working with the small-business sector across a wide range of policy areas, including economic recovery and industrial relations.

Ms Lamb was selected following a national, merit-based recruitment and selection process.

Following the passing of the Small Business Commissioner Act 2022 in March, the position and office of Small Business Commissioner became permanent in May this year.

“Permanency of the Small Business Commissioner role in Queensland ensures our small businesses continue to have ready access to support, information and advice, and reduce the time and costs associated with resolving disputes,” Ms Farmer said.

Ms Farmer said the outgoing temporary commissioner, Maree Adshead, had provided invaluable support for Queensland small businesses over the past two and half years and prior to this in her role as small business champion.

Ms Farmer said small businesses made up more than 97 per cent of all businesses in Queensland, employing more than 970,000 people and contributing almost $120 billion to the state’s economy.

“There is a demonstrated need for a dedicated government access point for this important business sector,” she said.

“The appointment of a Queensland Small Business Commissioner under the new legislation will ensure small businesses continue to receive high-quality support and advice.”

Ms Lamb will take up the position from 23 December 2022. She holds a master’s in employment relations, a bachelor of laws, and a bachelor of arts.
