EY’s latest global information security survey found that 87 per cent of board members and C-level executives lack confidence in their organisation’s level of cyber security, while 64 per cent of organisations do not have a threat intelligence program.
The IPA’s executive general manager for advocacy and technical, Vicki Stylianou, said the Institute is ramping up its efforts to assist members with the growing issue.
“We’ve got a partner research centre with Deakin University’s cyber centre so we’re trying to leverage some of their expertise to develop some policies to go to government with,” Ms Stylianou said.
“In the meantime, however, we’re just raising awareness and giving members some really easy tips to follow and those are very much geared towards small businesses.
“With our members, it’s starting to get traction in terms of being a major issue that they need to start thinking about for their practices or their businesses or their clients. It’s not something that is just topical today. It is something that has to be built into their everyday business and work.”
The IPA will host a webinar with Boaz Fischer, cyber security expert on 4 May.
