The ATO said it recognises that lodging tax documents are not a priority for those impacted by the natural disaster and encourage those affected to contact its emergency support line on 1800 806 218 to see what support can be offered.
2022 eastern Australia floods
It said if tax practitioners or their clients have been affected by the eastern Australia flooding over September and October 2022 and are struggling to meet their tax obligations, there are a range of support options available to help you.
If payment cannot be made by the due date, people are encouraged to contact the ATO to discuss payment options and request a remission of general interest charge (GIC).
For those not directly impacted by the floods but need more time to lodge, they should also contact the ATO or their tax professional as soon as possible to discuss their circumstances.
Significant global entities or large businesses that require assistance in relation to lodgement due dates as a result of the floods can contact the ATO to work through any concerns.
Small businesses and individuals in Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) declared LGAs that can lodge on time should do so. Those that can’t because they have been impacted by the floods won’t be penalised for lodging late.
If you use a registered tax or BAS agent, different dates may apply.
