End of Year Message from CEO Andrew Conway

It’s that time of the year again when we say we hope you have a safe, happy and healthy silly season.

Policy puts accountants in a difficult situation in Australia and the UK

There was, however, nothing silly about the challenging year we are leaving behind, and I want to express my thanks to members for persevering with your endeavours over a demanding year.

I would also like to thank you for supporting the IPA Group’s growth ambitions as articulated in our 2018-2025 strategy. We have worked with purpose to get life back to normal and have achieved a great deal to build a more inclusive community, offering better member experience and delivering world-class education, research and member services.

Over the past year, we have actively worked on bringing our digitalisation strategy to life. One of the first concrete steps we have taken is to move Public Accountant production from print to digital in our centenary year. The last issue of Public Accountant for 2022 can be found here. This is also the last issue of Public Accountant to be printed for mass distribution.

As of 2023, all of our thought leadership, analyses, business and technical guidance will be moving online and we are looking forward to unwrapping the new, refreshed, more environmentally responsible version of your favourite publication .
We will share more of our exciting plans with you in the new year. In the meantime, you will continue to receive a weekly Public Accountant newsletter with the latest news, opinions, and podcasts.

I invite you to write to us at ipaadvocacy@publicaccountants.org.au and share your thoughts about Public Accountant, its past and future. Your feedback will be used to inform and shape our future publishing strategy.

There are many things to be optimistic about in 2023. Our member growth is strong and the transformation projects we are working on represent a great opportunity to build a better platform for member engagement and ramp up our educational, engagement and advocacy efforts.

But we are most excited about celebrating our 100th birthday in 2023. The extent to which we are able to transform over the next couple of years will influence the profession in more than one way, so there is every reason to usher in the new year with excitement.

If you are getting a break, may it be festive and happy. Stay safe and well, and all the best for the holiday season.
