Agents urged to set up myGovID with AUSkey to retire in 9 weeks

“If you have staff who are offshore employees, non-residents working in Australia or Australians without the necessary identity documents for a Standard myGovID, they may be able to use a Basic myGovID to access Online services for agents from 16 March,” the Australian Taxation Office has said in a notice.

It has, however, cautioned that for security reasons, some restrictions apply to Basic myGovID users for higher-risk actions including changing registration details such as an address, updating financial institution details and requesting refunds.

To set up as a Basic myGovID user, employee are advised to:

  • download the myGovID app and set up their myGovID;
  • be authorised as a Basic user by a principal authority or authorisation administrator in Relationship Authorisation Manager; and
  • meet additional proof of identity requirements.

“If your employee does not have a tax file number (TFN) they will need to send us certified copies of two identity documents with a completed ATO use of Basic myGovID form,” the ATO added.

“If they have a TFN, they will need to contact us to complete a proof of record ownership over the phone.”
