The survey revealed that over 70 per cent of members believe the financial performance of Australia’s two million small-business owners will be negatively impacted with the introduction of the carbon tax. In summary:
- 66 per cent of members believe there has not been enough consideration on how the carbon tax will impact small business
- 67 per cent think that insufficient information has been provided to small business to enable them to determine how the carbon tax may affect them
- one-third of members believe that the prospects for small business over the next 12 months are ‘poor’
- 63 per cent of members believe that small business will not be adequately compensated by the Government once the carbon tax is introduced.
We continue to represent the views of members through our lobbying and ongoing discussions with the Government.
Meeting with IASB vice-chair
The Institute and members of our Faculty of Accounting Regulation met with the Interntional Accounting Standards Board vice-chairman Ian Mackintosh recently. He spoke about the future agenda and listened to our views on the IASB work program.
He will be visiting Australia again for the IFRS conference being co-hosted by the IPA and the other two professional accounting bodies.
