IFRS 2011
The International Financial Reporting Standards annual conference was held for the
first time in Australia in November and the Institute was heavily involved, jointly hosting the event with the other accounting bodies. Presenting at the event were many of the IASB’s experts, including chairman Hans Hoogervorst and vice-chairman Ian Mackintosh.
The event provided a rare opportunity to gain insight into international standard-setting at the top levels of the industry.
AGM & Tasmanian mini-congress
In October the Institute held its first annual general meeting (AGM) under the new name. The 2010/11 Annual Report was available at the meeting and can also be downloaded from our website or you can request a copy of the annual report through your nearest divisional office. The report focuses on our rich history, where we are now and the direction in which we are heading in the future.
Surrounding the AGM, the Tasmanian division hosted an exciting mini-congress. The event began with an opening address by His Excellency Peter Underwood, the Governor of Tasmania, and was followed with two days of educational programs and social events.
Members were optionally able to partake of some of Tasmania’s most historic sites, such as Port Arthur and Bruny Island.
NSW State Congress & Business Expo
Following the successful Tasmanian event, New South Wales held their State Congress and Business Expo in November. The event included over 30 presentations and covered all the current issues in accounting and business with the theme ‘Embrace the Future’. The two-day congress was presented by experts in the industry and covered business, regulatory and SME topics. Members went on to enjoy the NSW pre-Christmas cruise of Sydney Harbour.
