Since our inclusion in the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) in 2011, we have continued to enhance our regional reach and involvement. As such, we are pleased to have been invited to help guide a number of regional accounting bodies in their development.
The IPA views networking as invaluable. In late July, I visited Kuala Lumpur as part of our partnership and relationship strengthening with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants along with key meetings with the Accountant General and the Australian High Commissioner.
I also had the pleasure of presenting at the International Council of Small Business conference. I was invited to present on the IPA’s role in the regulation of the accounting profession and how we interact with other key stakeholders to ensure Australia stays at the forefront of best practice.
We continue to represent, and advocate for, the interests of our members, particularly in key areas of policy. For this reason we have continued to meet with Government and Shadow ministers with the most recent meetings involving The Hon Bill Shorten (Minister for Financial Services and Superannuation), The Hon David Bradbury (Assistant Treasurer and Minister Assisting for Deregulation), The Hon Brendan O’Connor (Minister for Small Business), The Hon Bruce Billson (Shadow Minister for Small Business, Competition Policy and Consumer Affairs), and Senator Mathias Cormann, (Shadow Assistant Treasurer and Shadow Minister for Financial Services and Superannuation).
In August, we played an active role in the NAB National Small Business Summit 2012, hosted by the Council of Small Business Australia. On your behalf I participated in a panel on superannuation and discussed the need for government to adopt a demographic approach to superannuation and our senior tax advisor, Tony Greco participated in a panel discussion on managing cash flow for small businesses.
As we rapidly approach the end of the calendar year, the IPA is certainly not winding down our advocacy on your behalf. We are as committed as ever to provide you with a strong voice and making sure of an incredibly busy professional landscape.
